Akaroa Guided Kayak Tour

Akaroa Guided Kayak Tour
From NZD $530.00
  • Duration: 8 Hours (approx.)
  • Location: Christchurch, Canterbury
  • Product code: AK04

The harbour town of Akaroa is approximately 90 minutes driving time from Christchurch. Akaroa sits within the eroded crater of an extinct volcano, a small town set in a dramatic landscape of harbour and hills, rich in both French and Māori history. Akaroa waters are home to Hector’s Dolphins, the world’s smallest dolphin.

The drive from Christchurch explores the volcanic Summit Road which (on a clear day) affords spectacular views of Christchurch, the Canterbury Plains, Lyttleton and Akaroa harbours. The highway passes through the historic and arty town of Little River and runs alongside unique wetlands.

On arrival in Akaroa your guide will check you in for your Kayak tour. Your Kayak guide will assist with setting up your kayak so that you will have the maximum comfort when paddling, and give a weather and chart briefing. Your kayak guide accompanies you on the tour to show you the best of Akaroa from the water.

A late lunch will be enjoyed at an award winning harbourside café. If time permits you will have the opportunity to wander around this charming French influenced village of Akaroa with its Museum of Settlers’ history and art and craft shops. We then head back to Christchurch.

Stops will be made, time and weather permitting, at The Little River Art Gallery, Barry’s Bay Cheese Factory and Birdlings Flat.
