As you head south, wind your way through small picturesque country towns, cross Burke's Pass, and enter the high country of the MacKenzie Plains, named after a sheep rustler. Pass by the turquoise jewels of Lake Tekapo and Lake Pukaki before turning towards the awe-inspiring Mount Cook National Park.

At an elevation of 3754 meters, Aoraki Mount Cook stands proudly as New Zealand's highest mountain, surrounded by a stunning alpine backbone. Explore the national park with guided walks to experience the alpine vistas or opt for a stroll to witness the grandeur of the Tasman Glacier, the longest glacier in the world in a temperate zone.

Day 2: Leisure Day in Tekapo or Mount Cook

Indulge in a leisurely day in either Tekapo or Mount Cook, each offering unique activities. In Tekapo, relax in the soothing hot pools and visit the world-famous observatory for a mesmerizing stargazing experience. Depart from Mount Cook and venture south through the enchanting Mackenzie Country to Omarama, renowned as a gliding center. Take in the striking "Clay Cliffs," a testament to New Zealand's unique badlands. Travel over the Lindis Pass, witnessing a dramatic change in the landscape as you journey through Otago province to Queenstown.

Make a stop at the iconic Kawarau Gorge to witness the historic Bungy bridge or explore one of the wineries along the Kawarau River.
