Your adventure begins with a scenic drive along the high summit route, where you'll be treated to glorious vistas of farmlands, Akaroa Harbour, the Canterbury Plains, and the distant Southern Alps. Nestled in the Takamatua valley and right outside of historic Akaroa you will find Coombe Farm where a sense of pioneer history still lingers. Hugh, and his wife Katherine, are second generation farmers here, enjoying the ebb and flow of the seasons and peaceful way of life. Hugh will give you an insight into their life as caretakers of this special place. Marvel at the discipline and precision of dogs working sheep and Hugh’s skill at shearing. There will also be a chance to visit the the Homestead which was was built for Frenchman Bernard Mora (a whaler who jumped ship in Akaroa in 1859), and his Irish wife Mary in 1898. The house has been fully restored to its current charm.
 
After your sheep farm experience you will head into the charming 175-year-old village of Akaroa. Stroll along its historic streets, lined with buildings that reflect its French heritage. Delve into the local museum to uncover the fascinating stories of early settlers, browse unique art and craft shops, and discover local artists' studios. Savor a 
delectable lunch at an award-winning café, indulging in the flavours of this coastal haven
 
As you continue your journey, you'll have the opportunity to visit Barry's Bay Cheese Factory, where you can sample artisanal cheeses, the Little River Art Gallery, showcasing local artistic talent, and Birdling's Flat, a picturesque coastal area (time/weather permitting).
